The last month has brought with it increasingly warmer and nicer weather, and with better weather comes more events. Of course, while we are still kind of in the middle of a pandemic, it’s always good to keep your distance. But that shouldn’t hinder you from having a fun family outing.

Today we’ll be looking at a few more upcoming events in the Fraser Valley area, specifically for June.

June 6, 13, & 20 – Downtown Chilliwack Community MarketDowntown Chilliwack Community Market

To start us off, we have the Downtown Chilliwack Community Market. A great place to find and connect with new businesses and products you might really enjoy, the DCCM is open from 10 am to 2 pm and a great place for locally grown, crafted, and brewed products. Maybe you just need some fresh carrots, well head on over to Cultus Lake after and it could be a trip worthwhile. If you’re okay with the commute, the Chilliwack Community Market could provide you with not only handmade items and fresh produce but also meaningful community interactions. You can read more about the market here: dccm.ca

June 6 – Ride for Doug 2021 (Langley)

Ride for Doug, a motorcycle charity riding against Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, is on its 15th year this June. Starting at Langley’s Colossus Theatre and ending at the UFV campus in Abbotsford, you can either pick up tickets and ride in support or watch the live stream and support from home. If you feel like a midsummer cruise, this ones for you. Or maybe you just want to show your support, but don’t like objects with two wheels and an engine. That’s totally okay, you can still donate to their cause and even keep up with the ride online.

Every Saturday in June – Fort Langley Village Farmers’ Market

At the Fort Langley Village Farmers’ Market, you can meet our local BC farmers, BC Prepared food vendors, BC Craft beer, spirits, and wine vintners, and our “Best of BC” Artisans.

When: Every Saturday 9:00 am – 3:00 pm. April 10th – December 18th, 2021

Where: Fort Langley Village Farmers’ Market is located at 9025 Glover Road, Fort Langley B.C. (site of St. Andrew’s Historic Chapel)

June 18 – Golf for Kids’ Sake Tournament & Silent Auction (Abbotsford)

That brings us to another neat gathering happening this month. The Big Brothers Big Sisters Foundation is hosting a golf fundraiser at Ledgeview Golf and Country Club, which would be perfect for the golfers of the family. With tickets starting at $250, your package includes lunch, dinner, a cart rental, and 18 holes, and you can be assured that your donation is going towards a good cause. You can find out more at the Big Brothers Big Sisters website.

St. Patrick’s Day 2021: What’s Happening This Year in the Fraser Valley?

One of the first yearly celebrations to be hit by COVID-19 last year was St. Patrick’s Day, so this year we wanted to take a look around the Fraser Valley to see if there is anything that we can do to take part in this annual global celebration of Irish culture.

As you might have guessed, there is very little happening in the way of events. As we contacted the different pubs and event organizers who have done things in the past, the message was almost always the same, “due to COVID we are laying low this year.” But that doesn’t mean that some of the restaurants and pubs, in particular, aren’t attempting to at least give a little nod to remembering St. Patrick.

If you are in the mood for celebrating St. Patrick’s Day this year, here are several things to consider in the Fraser Valley:

Abbotsford

The Canadian Brewhouse – Abbotsford

Green beer will be available at The Canadian Brewhouse. ON SPECIAL ALL DAY: $8.99 Green Beer Tankards, $8.99 Guinness Tankards

Surrey

Dublin Crossing Dublin Crossin

Normally, Dublin Crossing is the place to go in Surrey on St. Patrick’s Day, but it looks like they won’t be holding a special event this year. They are open, however, so you can always stop by year-round for an Irish pub experience!

Location: 18789 FRASER HIGHWAY, #101-18789 Fraser Highway, Surrey Phone: (604) 575-5470

The Clayton PubThe Clayton Pub

In response to our inquiry to find out what was happening at the Clayton Pub They responded:

“(The Clayton Pub) will have green beer, but with Covid restrictions, it makes it really hard to go further than that. Wednesdays are normally our crab night and we tested an idea to dye our crab legs green in the spirit of St Paddys day, LOL this did not work out, the crab legs looked gross green so we scrapped that idea.”

Location: 5640 188 St, Surrey, BC V3S 4N5 Phone +778-571-1615 Email: info@theclaytonpub.com Website: https://www.theclaytonpub.com/

White Hart Public House

Due to covid restrictions in place the White Hart Public House doesn’t have any events going on this year, however, they will have Green $4.50 pints of Red Truck all day long to celebrate, in the safest manner possible. The White Hart Public House was voted Surrey’s Best Pub, Burger, Appetizers, Happy Hour, Breakfast & Brunch, and Patio Dining in The Surrey Leaders Readers Choice Awards 2020!

Location: 8593 132 St., Surrey Phone – (604) 503-5735

Donegal’s Irish House

Donegal’s Irish House has decided to address the challenges we are facing with COVID in a creative way that many of us have become familiar with their “St Paddy’s Day Party (for 2) in a Box.”

Here’s what they have to say:

“With all that’s going on in the world these days, we’ve set up a St Patrick’s Day Party in a Box for you, so you can celebrate Paddy’s Day in style with your significant other, in the comfort and safety of you own home…..there will be no grand parties this year, but that doesn’t mean you can’t get all the same goodies you would have if your come and partied with us.

“Order yours now, supplies are limited, and when they are sold out, there will be no more! Email us through this page, or via our Facebook page to order, links to both in the contact tab on this site.”

See their website for more information. https://donegals.pub/promos%2Fevents

September is basically January; a fresh start, new beginnings, adventures, change of schedules… Things begin to slow down, the leaves start falling and you order your PSL daily instead of an iced americano. Summer activities will soon be a thing of the past as it gets too cold to spend afternoons in the lake and evenings around the campfires. School starts, routines get back on track. It all sounds a little dull, doesn’t it?

Here are a few fun activities happening around the Fraser Valley this September to keep things rockin’.

Vancouver Canucks Jake Virtanen and Canuck Place Children’s Hospice youth, Yousef, will take a dream come true flight on Friday, August 9 at the Abbotsford International Airshow.

Yousef is a 17-year-old Burnaby youth with a type of pediatric cancer called Ewing Sarcoma, which accounts for about 1.8 percent of childhood cancers. Yousef loves horseback riding and planes. His dream of flying in formation with a Canucks player will come true on Friday morning in a special routine in advance of the annual Abbotsford International Airshow.

I find Father’s Day gifts to be one of the hardest gifts to buy. Unless your guy has a specific hobby that you can add to each year, it can be really hard to come up with what to get. Lucky for you, I’m here to help you with a few ideas this year!

If you have young children, I find homemade gifts to be the best option. What Dad doesn’t love getting gift made just for them by their little ones. A few that we have done in the past year are:

For starters, let’s dive into some of the reasons organic eating is a good and healthy decision to make! Organic foods do not have the following;

  • pesticides
  • herbicides
  • fertilizers from synthetic ingredients or sewage sludge
  • ionizing radiation
  • growth hormones
  • antibiotics

Which is pretty amazing considering we live in a world ruled by processed foods.  Organic crops are also more nutritious for you and are usually GMO-free! All the more reason to shop organic!  We aren’t here to convert you or anything, but we are here to keep you in the loop when it comes to.. well… anything positively affecting your lifestyle! With that, here are a few of our favourite local and organic shops in the Fraser Valley!

St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church is hosting a Spring Fair and Garage Sale on Friday May 24th from 4:00 – 9:00 pm and Saturday May 25″ from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. This family-friendly event attracts visitors from many neighbouring areas as well as from within the Abbotsford community. This event is not only a very important fundraiser for the church, but also an opportunity to welcome the treasured Abbotsford community and  get to know each other better.
