Spring Cleaning Tips

Spring cleaning is an annual affair that could go on for a long time if you don’t have a strategy in place. Having fallen victim to “No plan Spring cleaning” once or twice before, we decided to turn it around this year. Here are our Spring cleaning tips and  a few pieces of advice straight from the organization experts!

 Purge

Purging your home from old clothing, useless or extra dishes, cutlery, etc. Is like creating a clean slate for your home. Purging is an effective way to declutter and allows you to envision your space in a new and more positive way. Move your furniture, throw out your clothes,  get rid of old knick-knacks, sift through your old paperwork, souvenirs, anything that no longer serves a purpose, should go. As Marie Kondo says “does it spark joy?” Does it? If not, it’s time to let go.

Clean From Top to Bottom

This may be something we are all familiar with, but it never hurts to get a quick refresher.  Cleaning any room from top to bottom eliminates the problem of having to sweep or mop once you already have, due to dust, crumbs, or a personal lack of planning.  For example, when cleaning your bedroom we recommend starting with your ceiling fan and all of the surfaces. Getting your sheets off your bed and giving them a shake or wash, following that with a wipe down of your dresser, side tables, and whatever furnishings you have will prevent the trouble of having to sweep twice.  It’s the little things, but they make a big difference.

Multitasking Doesn’t Exist

Don’t try to complete more than one task at a time! Multitasking is just your brain performing a sequence of actions very quickly, not at the same time! Try cleaning room by room, section by section. There is no need to run around like a chicken with its head cut off! Cleaning should be a good experience, a moment to enjoy and subdue stress.

4 Practical Tips From Experts

I use baking soda and vinegar to clean the drains at home. I leave the mixture in for one night, and it will dissolve all the oils, hair and other dirty deposits in the drains. It makes the drains very clean so that water flow will be smoother. I also use baking soda and vinegar to clean the floor at home.

Make the most of your time. I’d choose to wash my clothes when I’m mopping the floor. I usually set the washing machine timer to 15 minutes. So I’ll make use of that time to mop the floor. And after that, I’d hang the clothes out to dry.

Make sure everything has a place! Don’t pile things, sort vertically.

Cleaning the Bathtub: Here’s a nontoxic but effective way to clean your tub: Add one teaspoon of liquid soap and several drops of an antibacterial essential oil (such as tea tree, eucalyptus, rosemary, or peppermint) to one cup of baking soda. Add just enough water to form a paste, and use it with a sponge or brush to scour bathtub surface.

Prep The Outdoors. Now is the time to check your lawnmower to see if it needs gasoline, and make sure your grill is clean and chock-full of propane. Get all your hoses out, pull weeds, and bring out your patio furniture.
