It’s kind of an embarrassing story, but I first stumbled across The Modern General Store with my parents when
our GPS took us on a wild goose chase while we were looking for a place to get a snack. Once we finally found
our destination, we were struck by its unexpected warm and welcoming atmosphere and commitment to local
goods and provisions. I shared that it had an “urban-hipster” feel—which is a total a bonus in my books! Our
family has returned several times and are big fans of the Sunday brunch; my hubby loves the frittata, our kiddo
loves the waffles, and I love the trendy avocado toast.
After some intense 90’s overplucking and an unfortunate incident with a cat when I was a toddler, I finally got my eyebrows microbladed. During my session, I was captivated by a program to provide this same service for women with cancer, for free.
As I walked up to the gorgeous heritage facade of The Penny Coffee on Mission’s historic 1st Ave, I was immediately struck by the carefully renovated exterior, which stands out bold and blue on a street lined with brick red and brown. Without even setting foot inside the space, I could tell the interior was going to be beautiful- and I was not disappointed.
If you haven’t attended the Fraser Valley Wine Festival before, you’re in for a treat! For 28 years, the Rotary Club of Central Langley has held this event to benefit youth in our community.
From its earliest days, the Rotary Club of Langley Central has designed the wine festival not just for wine enthusiasts but to help raise funds for causes that hit close to home.
During the years that the Canadian Forces were fighting in Kandahar, our troops suffered 157 casualties. On the morning of December 30, 2009, my husband checked his blackberry for incoming messages, as was his habit, and told me it had been a particularly bad day as an IED (Improvised Explosive Device) had killed 4 Canadian soldiers and a civilian journalist. Shortly thereafter, the phone rang.
Artisan markets are popping up everywhere, but the Chilliwack Market Mamas have quite the knack for planning amazing markets to support small local shops and charities around town.
Handmade items are my favorite to purchase. I love the fact that buying handmade products support the families who live in my community. Lucky for me, the Chilliwack Market Mamas have me covered with lots of pop-up artisan markets for me to attend! Last weekend, they hosted over 80 local vendors at a market on Promontory Road. Admission was FREE… which is always a good motivator to get me to spend more money at the booths! There was a charity raffle at the front door, and all proceeds raised were donated to the Starfish Pack program.
On Saturday, October 7th, Fort Langley held its 22nd Annual Cranberry Festival. Like all fall fairs, it was filled with activities for young and old.
Here are my top 5:
“Only the knife knows what goes on in the heart of a pumpkin.” – Simon Schwarz-Bart
As the summer season has officially come to a close it’s time to pull out all things pumpkin! Yes, that includes pumpkin spice and everything nice. Fall is a very anticipated season among many: the crisp weather, layers, and of course going to the pumpkin patch.
If you’re from the Fraser Valley (Abbotsford specifically) you’ll know there are no shortages of patches to choose from – and it’s fun for the whole family. Grab your umbrellas, gum boots, and scarves and head out for an afternoon of fun.
Pumpkin spice and everything nice… The air is crisp, the trees are changing, blue skies are dwindling. Here are 5 awesome reasons to get outside and check out the Chilliwack Corn Maze before the month is over!
Corn mazes are a classic fall activity, but they are even better when you add beer and wine to the mix. The Abby Roadside is one of the Fraser Valley’s best autumn activities, and they are almost ready to close for the season.
I’ve been wanting to visit the Abby Roadside since it opened for the first time in 2016 and I finally managed to pay them a visit last weekend. It was the perfect way to spend an afternoon! It shouldn’t take much convincing, but let me tell you why you should plan to visit Abby Roadside on October 14th or 15th for their last weekend of the season.
