Grab your tickets now for an evening of fun, fancy and felines- it’s time for one of the Fraser Valley’s most loved gala events.

An evening of enchantment and wonder. The chance to wriggle out of your yoga pants and into a
cocktail gown. And the opportunity to help animals in need –all this is possible with one ticket (or five. Invite the neighbors!) to the 10th Annual Furry Tail Endings Gala in support of LAPS. The event of the season will take place at the Coast Hotel & Convention Centre on November 4th, 2017.

LAPS, or the Langley Animal Protection Society, has been an important part of the Fraser Valley’s animal control services for the last fourteen years.

They began providing community help when the City and Township of Langley needed to reduce the number of animal control related issues. The dedicated staff also work hard to ensure that all animals in their care are properly and purrfectly (yeah, I did) matched with a forever home.

Because of the roller coaster that is life, my family recently had the opportunity to experience the knowledge, compassion, and hospitality of the LAPS staff and facilities first hand. In a very sudden turn of events, we lost our beloved cat. I knew without a doubt that the first people I needed to speak with about filling the feline hole that now lived in my heart were the devoted kitten people at LAPS. And so off to the Patti Dale Animal Shelter in Aldergrove I went.

With a record number of kittens coming through their foster care program, there were many loveable and adoptable friends for us to choose from. Of course, we needed to pass their assessment process to make sure that we would be the right home for any furry companions. As a former Humane Educator with the BCSPCA, I was impressed with the level of care and commitment that the Adoption coordinators give to the cats and dogs in their system.

Needless to say, our hearts are healing and falling in love again with our new little floofs.

But as great as the facilities are that LAPS have to work with, there is always more than can be done to help our four-legged friends. So, this year’s goal is to complete a much-needed expansion to care for the cats that need a little extra TLC.

The LAPS ISOasis will become a “cat intake, isolation, and recovery facility on the same site of the Patti Dale Animal Shelter. A sheltering first in Canada, the ISOasis will provide much-needed space for the care of sheltered cats and kittens in our community. After years of seeing so many ill or injured cats and kittens from [the] community, a team of staff and volunteers dreamed a big dream on how to improve the care and space we provide for these needy cats”.
