Some times on a summer night, you just need to go watch a movie! Whether you hit up the VIP theatre in Abbotsford for dinner and a show, swing by the drive in or just go see a regular old show, there’s a movie for everyone coming out this summer. Here are some of the most anticipated ones!
Aladdin
This seems to be the summer of remakes and franchise movies. Who can forget the original Disney classic released in 1992. They’ve kept a lot of the same songs and music and added a few new ones. It’ll be so different to see Will Smith as the Genie. With Robin Williams voicing the original Genie, I always just visually thought of him as looking like Williams.
Rocket Man
Follow Taran Egerton, playing Elton John, on his journey to fame. The film makers admit it’s not a straight up biopic of John’s life, but there are over 20 of his songs and is more of a musical fantasy than anything. Elton John has quite the story to stardom starting out as a shy piano prodigy named Reginald Kenneth Dwight. I’m mostly looking forward to the music, but I’m sure the story will be great too!
X-Men: Dark Phoenix
This highly anticipated movie is part of the very popular Marvel Comic X-Men series. This is the 12th movie released in this series. The movie follows the X-Men as one of their own grows more powerful and evil. The team must then decide between her and the life of millions of people in this world.
The Secret Life of Pets 2
I am so excited to see this movie! My kids loved the first one. This sequel follows Max and his pals and all the crazy antics they get up to while their owners are out. Hilarity ensues!
Men in Black: International
Another movie in a great series! This may be more of a “guy” movie but, ladies, Chris Hemsworth is in it… need I say more! In this big adventure, they tackle their biggest problem yet, a mole in the Men in Black organization! Definitely a must see!
Shaft
A reboot of the movie in 2000. JJ, the son of John Shaft, is now a cyber security expert who graduated from MIT. Despite his FBI badge, he has to recruit his Dad to help him uncover what happened in the untimely death of his best friend.
Toy Story 4
I could not be more excited to see this movie! I love the Toy Story franchise. This installment follows Woody with his new friend Bonnie. The toys, led by Woody, are forced to deal with Bonnie’s new makeshift toy, Forky, who escapes while on a road trip.
The Lion King
This real-life remake of Disney’s The Lion King is going to be amazing! I’m not sure my 3 & 4-year-old are quite ready for this, but I’m sure excited. I loved the 1994 version (has it really been that long?!?) There’re some big stars leading their voices to this movie as well including Beyonce and Seth Rogan. The musical numbers in this film will be great!
Hobbs & Shaw
This movie follows the Fast and the Furious franchise. FBI agent, Luke Hobbs, played by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is forced to join forces with Deckard Shaw, played by Jason Statham. Shaw is basically a British mercenary, but the two have to work together to stop an international cyber terrorist, played by Idris Elba. It’s a jam-packed cast and is sure to be full of jam-packed action too!
So, there you have it!! Now, it’s officially time to get the summer started!
