Whether it’s a rare indulgence for a special occasion or your Thursday therapy session with the girls, enjoying a glass of wine is one of life’s perfect pleasures. So, the next time you’re headed to a dinner party or need a thoughtful birthday gift, here are some of the best Fraser Valley wines to gift this season.

Whites

2017 Gruner Veltliner

From Singletree Winery in Abbotsford, this bright white wine with aromas of citrus, peach and honey is amazingly smooth and well rounded. A perfect Saturday afternoon sipper. The Gruner Veltliner was cool fermented in stainless steel to retain fresh aromatics and lively acidity.

2017 Estate Grown Bacchus

A Fraser Valley favourite is the Reserve Bacchus from Chaberton Winery in Langley is another great white wine to gift. This off-dry white wine’s delicate aromas are accentuated by lemon and green pear notes with a hint of cinnamon and spice on the finish. The Bacchus pairs well with all types of goat cheese, curries, baked fish and fresh pan seared or grilled prawns.

Pinks

2017 Rosé

Sometimes life is better in pink, and a perfectly pink wine is something truly unique. The 2017 Rosé from Langley’s Backyard Vineyards is light pink appearance and offers a bouquet of orange rind, watermelon, strawberry and pomegranate. This one already has me dreaming about summer patio days.

Reds

2016 Florence Pinot Noir

If you love Pinots, then the Florence Pinot Noir from Seaside Pearl Winery in Abbotsford is truly made for you. With origins in Burgundy, France, a good Pinot Noir represents the more feminine side of red wines. This one is elegant and subtle, with aromas of strawberries and cherry with a hint of chocolate.

2016 Knight

And often forgotten grape varietal is the full bodied Marechal Foch. Marechal Foch is a small hybrid grape that produces juicy and full flavoured red wine. Sourced from the Okanagan, the ideal location for this varietal of grape, comes a wine bursting of lush blackberries and sweet strawberries. This noble Knight from Chilliwack’s Ripples Winery would be best enjoyed with roasted or grilled meats.

2016 NBO

Many people enjoy the full, rich experience of a bold red full of mouth puckering tannins. If your loved one or hostess has such a palate, then the 2016 NBO from Township 7 in Langley is your winner. A beautifully structured Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc blend, this NBO (North Bench Oliver) vintage has intense aromas of black currant, cedar, sage and flint. This red is meant to be savoured and shared with loved ones and serve with grilled rib eye and goat cheese potato mash.

If you’re looking for something sweeter or more unique to gift, look for Fraser Valley fruit and dessert wines from Fort Wine CompanyKrause Berry Farms & Estate WineryFestina Lente Estate Winery and Meadery or Vista D’Oro Farms & Winery.
