Carols in the air, holiday cups full of eggnog, and sparkling lights making their way into every neighborhood – it’s official; the season of merriment and cheer is here!
Looking for somewhere to take the kids or your friends for a full day of FREE entertainment and magical activities to get you all in the Christmas spirit? A good, ole tree lighting might be just the thing.
The City of Surrey is kicking off the beginning of the season with their annual Tree Lighting Festival. Saturday November 25th at City Hall Plaza from Noon to 7:00 pm, this year’s event is stuffed full of family friendly activities and performances. With plenty of food trucks, crafts to create, road hockey to play, a giant snow globe, and ice carving demonstrations – there is so much to do and see before taking in the concerts on the main stage.
The 2017 line up of performers includes Dance Collective, a Celine Dion tribute, Charlotte and Matt Diamond, Krystle Dos Santos and will be headlined by breakout star, Ruth B. There will be an array of other holiday music presentation on the side stages, as well as an appearance from Mr. and Mrs. Claus themselves.
Each year, the City of Surrey event organizers aim to provide a day filled with true Holiday magic for the community to enjoy. There is support from the BC Lions, several local radio stations, Kwantlen Polytechnic and Simon Fraser Universities and many other business and media sponsors. With over 10,000 attendees in 2016, this year’s event is sure to inspire and delight even the most bahumbug of participants.
The entire day finishes off with the grand finale – the official tree lighting! A 55 ft Christmas tree – one of the tallest in Canada – will be lit from skirt to star at 6:30 pm. So bundle up the family and shine up your Christmas cheer; the annual Surrey Tree Lighting is a Holiday event not to be missed.
