Refinery House in Chilliwack hosted their one-year birthday bash last weekend. To celebrate, they partnered with Himalayan Life to bring the community together for a good cause: to raise enough money to build a school in Nepal.
Have you heard of the Refinery House on Vedder Road? At first glance, I thought it was just a hair salon. Upon closer inspection, however, I realized this studio is actually a health & beauty haven. From hair and makeup, to physiotherapy and midwifery, they’ve got a girl covered head to toe, inside and out.
In fact, I was surprised to discover a service at the Refinery House that I had never heard of before: pelvic health physiotherapy. As an expecting mum myself (baby girl number two set to arrive in November), I made a mental note to delve into this after delivery.
The beauty services offered at the studio include haircuts and colours for men and women, makeup application, eyebrow tinting, lash tints and lifts, nails, plus health services such as midwifery, physiotherapy counseling, and even laser treatments.
So what did the Refinery House do to celebrate opening their doors to the community a year ago?
They held Refinery Fest! Which was awesome. But to make it even more awesome, they partnered with a charity called Himalayan Life. And together with the community, they worked to raise enough money to build a school in a small village in Nepal. This village was desecrated in a 2015 earthquake and Himalayan Life is working to help protect and educate the children who live there.
To raise money, there were a number of different activities you could register for by donation: outdoor spin classes, a yoga cool-down sesh held by Studio B Yoga from across the street, a 50km road bike ride, a shorter family fun ride, and even a trail run.
If you donated more than $50, you also received a taco and a beverage, plus VIP entrance into the “after party” which started around 7pm that evening.
After the “fitness fest” that took place in the morning, the Refinery House opened its’ parking lot to the public for a pop-up market with local vendors. I live for markets, so I jumped on that bandwagon. I would have loved to participate in the fitness activities in the morning, but my 8-month pregnant belly has been hindering any cycling or running! Instead, I dropped a donation at the Refinery House booth and did a little shopping at the local vendors.
I also would have loved to partake in the parking lot lounge set up by the Field House Brewing crew from Abbotsford. They had an amazing vintage-esque outdoor lounge area and I probably could have easily spent my whole afternoon there sipping on ice-cold brews.
Beer garden, plus live music in the afternoon to kick off their after party, and celebrating late into the night with food, drinks, and a dj… Refinery House really killed their birthday bash.
Not only did they throw a wicked birthday party, they supported other local small businesses, AND raised money to support a global issue and help a partnering charity.
I’m definitely pumped I was able to participate and support the Refinery House to reach their goals and support local while doing so! Thanks for the wicked party!
