NEW! Ag in the Classroom Tours

Calling all teachers!

In partnership with BC Agriculture in the Classroom to bring teachers and their students to see just how a greenhouse works! On May 1st and 3rd, greenhouses in Abbotsford, Aldergrove, Delta and Surrey will open their doors to offer educational tours for grades 4-12 in celebration of BC Greenhouse Veggie Days. The greenhouse tours have been designed to make curriculum connections for Food Studies, Culinary Arts, Sciences, Careers, Entrepreneurship, and Marketing.

There will be four different stations that will highlight the major aspects of greenhouses:

  1. Energy Cycles
  2. Plants and Integrated Pest Management
  3. The Workings of the Greenhouse and Careers
  4. Grading Produce for Market and Marketing

Tours are 1 hour in length and will be led by experienced greenhouse growers who will share their passion for indoor growing.  See the registration form here and email teacher@aitc.ca or krista@bcgreenhouse.ca.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS!

Watch for displays and demos at a retail store near you!

Free greenhouse public tours for BC Greenhouse Veggie Days will be held on Saturday, May 5 from 10am – 2pm!  These will be held at Westcoast Vegetables (3975 46A St, Delta), Sunnyside Produce (1133 176 St, Surrey) and Gravis Farms (4653 Bell Rd, Abbotsford).

BC Greenhouse Veggie Days celebrates the annual springtime arrival of locally grown greenhouse veggies from BC’s 42 Greenhouse Growers located throughout the Lower Mainland. During the long, dreary winter months our greenhouses are full of activity as new seedlings mature into ripe crops. The fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, lettuce and more are harvested and arrive in stores with the spring.
